Mt. Rushmore National Memorial

Badlands National Park Banner

Mount Rushmore National Memorial, located in the Black Hills, immortalizes the four presidents, Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and T. Roosevelt.  Conceived and created by Gutzon Borglum, Mount Rushmore was carved into the granite core of the Black Hills.  Extensive three-dimensional mapping of Mount Rushmore helped to confirm that the monument is stable and was a predecessor to the National Park Service cleaning in 2005.

Mount Rushmore provides a truly emotional patriotic experience, especially the evening lighting ceremony.  The monument is accessible through the Avenue of Flags which in itself offers an emotional view of flags of the 50 states, Washington D.C., territories and commonwealths.
